Know the Ingredients and Research on Medicine Lianhua Qingwen

Reporting from Hindawi Journal, Lianhua Qingwen Capsule (LQC) was developed from two traditional Chinese medicine formulas, namely Maxing-Shigan-Tang and Yinqiao-San.

This drug is generally used by Chinese medical personnel to treat influenza virus infection and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002-2003.

In Lianhua Qingwen medicine consists of the following 11 herbs:

>Fructus Forsythiae (Lianqiao).

>Flos Lonicerae Japonicae (Jinyinhua).

>Herba Ephedrae (Mahuang).

>Semen Armeniacae Amarum (Kuxingren).

>Radix Isatidis (Banlangen).

>Rhizoma Dryopteridis Crassirhizomatis (Mianmaguane).

>Pogostemonis herbs (Guanghuoxiang).

>Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang).

>Radix et Rhizoma Rhodiolae Crenulatae (Hongjingtian).

>Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae (Gancao).

>Together with menthol and traditional Chinese mineral medicine, Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao).

Still launching from Hindawi, a modern pharmacological study shows Lianhua Qingwen also has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Then, a study in Shanghai, China, in 2014 reported the effectiveness of the drug Lianhua Qingwen for treating acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

In the study process, researchers involved 100 participants who were divided into two groups. The first group was given Lianhua Qingwen capsule and the second group took a combination of conventional drugs.

According to the results of the study, the condition of the group who took the Lianhua Qingwen medicine improved on the fifth day. Meanwhile, the group that was given conventional medicine did not get better after periodic treatment.

Research data said that the drug Lianhua Qingwen can accelerate the improvement of the condition of patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, especially for the high-risk subgroup.

This Chinese medicine probably works by decreasing the release of inflammatory mediators in the body.

Summarizing the various studies above, Lianhua Qingwen's medicine cannot yet be called effective in overcoming COVID-19. Most of the reports state that this Chinese medicine only relieves symptoms of disease in the lung organs and is not really effective in overcoming COVID-19.

Not only that, the Food and Drug Administration of the Republic of Indonesia (BPOM) confirmed that no herbal medicine, including Lianhua Qingwen capsules, has been approved for the treatment of COVID-19.

BPOM has indeed issued a distribution permit for Lianhua Qingwen medicine with number TI144348471. However, Lianhua Qingwen was approved by the BPOM to help relieve heartburn symptoms such as cough and dry throat.

BPOM urges the public not to be affected by the promotion of herbal or medicinal products that are said to be able to cure COVID-19, including Lianhua Qingwen. The reason is, until now there is no proven drug that can cure COVID-19.
