Pojokkampung.org-Open University (UT) is the 45th State University in Indonesia which was inaugurated on September 4, 1984, based on Presidential Decree No. 41/1984. UT has 4 Faculties, namely the Faculty of Economics (FE), the Faculty of Law, Social and Political Sciences (FHISIP), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) for Diploma and Undergraduate levels. Since 2004, UT has opened a Masters level in the Postgraduate Program. Since 2019, UT has opened a Doctoral program. The open university is one of the universities that in its learning method puts forward and takes advantage of technological advances, especially the development of information technology (IT) and is the only university based on the internet both in the teaching and learning process, as well as in other administrative stewardship with a distance learning system that is being its flagship program, this university is the only one recognized by the government as a university with an online learning method and is accredited B by a national accreditation body. This university makes students able to share their time more flexibly, it is not surprising that this university makes a reference for people who are busy at work and have little time, but want to continue their education to earn a bachelor's degree or diploma.UT applies a distance and open learning system. The term distance means learning is not done face-to-face, but uses media, both printed (module) and non-print (audio / video, computer / internet, radio broadcasts and television) media. The meaning of being open is that there are no restrictions on age, year of diploma, study period, registration time, and frequency of taking exams. The only limitation is that every UT student must have completed senior secondary education (SMA or equivalent).
UT students are expected to learn independently. The independent learning method requires students to study on their own initiative or initiative. Independent learning can be done individually or in groups, both in study groups and in tutorial groups. UT provides teaching materials that are designed to be studied independently. Apart from using the teaching materials provided by UT, students can also take the initiative to take advantage of other reading materials in the library following tutorials, either face-to-face or via the internet, radio, and television; and utilize other learning resources such as computer-aided teaching materials and audio / video programs. If you have learning difficulties, students can ask for information about learning assistance from the local Open University Distance Learning Program Unit (UPBJJ-UT).
Independent learning in many ways is determined by the ability to learn effectively. The ability to learn depends on the speed of reading and the ability to understand the content of the reading. To be able to study independently effectively, UT students are required to have self-discipline, initiative, and strong learning motivation. Students are also required to be able to manage their time efficiently so that they can study regularly based on their own study schedule. Therefore, in order to successfully study at UT, prospective students must be ready to study independently. UT, like other universities, implements the Semester Credit System (SKS) to determine the study load of students. In this system, the study load that must be completed in one study program is measured in semester credit units (credits). Each subject is given a weight of 1-6 credits. One semester is a unit of time for learning activities for approximately 16 weeks. In face-to-face higher education, students who take a study load of one credit must attend lectures for one hour per week in class and one hour for practice, practicum, or study at home, so that in one semester students must allocate about 32 hours of study time. To take a course with a weight of 3 credits, it takes about 96 hours of study per semester.
In the distance education system, students must also allocate the same time as face-to-face students (2 hours per week per credit). It's just that the learning activities are mostly done independently (self-study, group study, or tutorials).
Especially for UT, one credit is equivalent to three printed teaching material modules. One module consists of 40-50 pages, so the teaching material with a weight of 3 credits ranges from 360-450 pages, depending on the type of course. Based on the results of the study, the students' ability to read and understand the average is 5-6 pages per hour so that it takes about 75 hours to read and understand teaching materials with a weight of 3 credits (360-450 pages divided by 5-6 pages). If one semester has 16 weeks, then the time needed to read and understand teaching materials with a weight of 3 credits is 75 hours divided by 16 weeks, or approximately 5 hours per week. For example, if a student takes 15 credits / semester, he or she must allocate 15 credits divided by 3 credits by 5 hours = 25 hours per week or approximately 5 hours per day (1 week counts as 5 days of study). With a learning system like this, UT students are expected to allocate study time according to the credit load taken, or take the credit load each semester according to the allocated study time, as well as to consider their respective academic abilities. In 2020, open universities become the largest CPNS contributor with more than 9,000 alumni who passed the 2019 CSP admission selection, far above the favorite universities in Indonesia. And this is a matter of pride for the open university (UT) and its alumni. hopefully it will be a reference for those of you who want to continue their education to the undergraduate level.
Tuition fees are fees charged to students for the implementation and guidance of education and academic administration services. Details of the tuition fees at UT for each program and service can be found at the following link:
