PT. Maharani Putri is a company that produces apparel (garment) which has been operating since 1989. The head office of PT. Maharani Putri is located in Jakarta with a marketing area covering all of Indonesia. As a garment manufacturer that has been around for more than two decades, PT. Maharani Putri is one of the current market leaders for the apparel industry in Indonesia. Its market share reaches 40% of the apparel market in Indonesia. Apart from fulfilling domestic demand, PT. Maharani Putri also serves overseas markets including Asia and Europe.

Since starting its operations, PT. Maharani Putri has a vision as a manufacturer of women's clothing no. 1 in Indonesia. This vision is spelled out in the company's missions which focus on the production of office clothing, party dresses and casual clothing that are more aimed at the upper middle segment. PT. Maharani Putri only serves women buyers under the brand "Woman1" and does not serve other groups of buyers to support the vision that was set at the beginning of the company's establishment. The management analyzes that women are the most profitable group of buyers because they have a high desire to always follow the latest clothing fashions. To reach the widest possible consumer, PT. Maharani Putri markets its products through several well-known department stores throughout Indonesia. PT. Maharani Putri supplies their products directly to department stores with a product life cycle of at most one year. To obtain "Woman1" products, consumers can directly buy at these department stores. This method is the most effective way for PT. Maharani Putri, because the life cycle of women's clothing will change very quickly, so long distribution channels are not required.

PT Maharani Putri currently has a factory in Bekasi. In line with the increasing demand for "Woman1" products, the management plans to establish a new factory because the existing factory is estimated that in the next five years it will not be able to serve the increasing demand. The company has two alternative locations, namely in Cikarang, Semarang, or in Surabaya. In selecting locations, the management has analyzed the factors that influence each location, the weight of the importance of each factor, and the scores for each location as follows.

The establishment of the new factory is not only to meet increasing domestic demand but also to meet foreign market demand. Currently, the management has analyzed that knitted products have a large market potential, especially in Europe. For this reason, the new factory is prepared to produce a line of knitted clothes to meet foreign markets. To meet the demand for knitted clothes, the management is preparing to purchase an automatic knitting machine in order to speed up the production volume. There are two engine options that can be purchased, namely the ASIO brand from China and the KUHLER brand from Germany. ASIO machines are offered at a price of IDR 1,000,000,000.00 and are capable of providing income input of IDR 260,000,000.00 per year. The KUHLER machine is offered at a price of IDR 1,500,000,000.00 and is capable of generating an income of IDR 320,000,000.00 per year. To buy the machine, the management of PT. Maharani Putri will borrow funds from the bank in the amount of Rp. 700,000,000.00 and the rest will be met from the company's internal funds.

To support the operation of new machines, companies need workers who have special skills in operating machines. The next problem to solve is to consider the most suitable recruitment method for the company. According to the HRD Manager, it will be more profitable for the company to look for competent old people to occupy supervisor positions on the new line of machines. When using new people, it will take a lot of time and money. Old people have proven to have high loyalty that has supported the company so far, so they deserve to get a better position. These old people will be analyzed and evaluated to assess their ability to occupy new positions. For the placement of this position, the company will assess existing employees at the Bekasi factory who currently occupy the group leader position, namely one position below the supervisor to be selected as supervisor for the new knitting machine line. The initial selection that will be carried out is to assess the commitment, discipline, and tenure of employees. In providing wages for the new supervisors, the company will prioritize wage fairness by looking at the current wage structure in the company. For the appointment of a group leader to become a supervisor, the level of wages to be given will be adjusted to the supervisor's wage level which is higher than the group leader.
