Isra Miraj is an overnight trip that Prophet Muhammad SAW received orders from Allah SWT to pray five times a day and night.Actually Isra and Miraj are two different events. However, because these two events occurred at the same time it was called Isra Miraj.Isra is the story of the Prophet Muhammad's journey from the Grand Mosque in Mecca to the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Miraj is the story of the Prophet's journey from earth to the seventh heaven and continued to Sidratul Muntaha (the end of the achievement) to receive Allah's command to pray five times a day and night.

Although there are several hadiths and opinions that explain the time of the occurrence of Isra Miraj, but from the verses in the Koran it is quite clear that the incident occurred at night. The following is the meaning of the first verse of the letter Al-Isra:

"Glory be to Allah who has executed His servant one night from the Grand Mosque to the Al-Aqsa Mosque which We have blessed around him so that We show him some of the signs (of greatness) We. Truly He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing."

This of course raises various questions in the mind, why should it be nighttime and not daytime. It turns out that there are several separate lessons regarding the time of Isra Miraj. There are several reasons that explain why Allah made night the time this event occurred.are as follows:

1. The Right Time for Khalwah

The wisdom of Isra Miraj time at night is because it is the right time to do khalwah (seclusion) and specialization. This is explained in:

قال ابن المنير: إنما كان الإسراء ليلا لأنه وقت الخلوة والإختصاص عرفا

Meaning: Ibn Munir argues that the Isra incident occurred at night, because night is the right time to retreat and is usually the right time to specialize in practice.

2. Compulsory Prayer Times

The second reason is that Isra Miraj is at night, because at night it is obligatory to pray. This is based on a verse in Surat Al-Muzammil verse 2 which means:

"Pray at night, except for a little."

3. The Test for Believing in Unseen Things

The wisdom of Isra Miraj occurs the next night, as a test for believers to believe in unseen things. Anything that is difficult to digest with reason, as well as a test for unbelievers. Are they still denying the Prophet's message, or will they believe.

4. Time Your Majesty

The reason Allah SWT made the next Isra Miraj event, is because night is a glorious time. Because there are several other special events that occur at night. Especially the stories that happened in the life of the prophets before Rasulullah SAW.

Among them, there is the story of the Prophet Abraham who initially thought of the star as God. Then realized that the stars were not God because they were going to disappear.

This is stated in Surah Al-An'am verse 76:

فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ رَأَىٰ كَوْكَبًا ۖ قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّي ۖ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَا يأُح

Meaning: When the night was dark, he saw a star (then) he said: This is my Lord, but when the star sank he said: I do not like drowning.

In addition, night was the time when the Prophet Yaqub AS's prayer was granted. This is according to the word of God in Surah Yusuf verse 98:

قَالَ سَوْفَ اَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّيْ ۗاِنَّهٗ هُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ

Meaning: He (Jacob) said, "I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Apart from the two stories above, there are still a few more stories that show the glory of the night in the life of the previous prophets. At the same time also as a rebuttal to philosophers, who consider that the night is a despicable time. As stated by Ibn Dihyah as follows:

قال ابن دحية: ولإبطال قول الفلاسفة: إن الظلمة من شأنها الإهانة والشر

Meaning: According to Ibn Dihyah, the occurrence of Isra at night is a refutation of the opinion of the philosophers: In fact, in the night there is reproach and ugliness.

5. Time to gather

The reason for putting the Isra Miraj event at night is because night is the right time to gather with loved ones. Therefore, Allah SWT sent the Apostle at night.

6. The Promised Best Time

Furthermore, the wisdom of this Isra Miraj, because night is the time mentioned and promised by Allah as the best time of a thousand months or lailatul qadar. There is no other time, besides the night, that has this privilege.

7. Time to descend the First Revelation

There are other features that underlie Isra Miraj happening at night. It turns out that because night is the time for the first revelation:

"... The Angel Jibril came (to the cave hira) and said:" Read! "He replied:" I can not read ". The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam explained: Then the angel held me and hugged me very strong then let me go and said again. : "Read!" He replied: "I can not read". So the angel held me and hugged me very strong then let go and said again: "Read!". He replied: "I can not read". The angel held me back and hugged me. for the third time with great force and then let me go, and said again: (Read with (mention) the name of your God Who Created, He has created man from a clot of blood. Read, and it is your God who is the most gracious). " (Narrated by Bukhari no. 6982, Muslim no. 160).

8. When prayer is granted

The night is believed to be the most effective or appropriate time for prayer. In contrast to noon, only Friday during the day is said to have this virtue.

9. A Good Time to Refresh the Mind

The wisdom and reasons for the Isra Miraj incident at night, because this is the right time to refresh your mind, by resting. Meanwhile, morning to noon, Allah created to earn income.

This is based on the word of Allah in Sura Al-Furqan verse 47:

وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا وَالنَّوْمَ سُبَاتًا وَجَعَلَ النَّهَارَ نُشُورًا

Meaning: He is the one who makes for you the night (as) clothes, and sleeps to rest. He made the day to wake up trying.
